Capping the Year!

Our Year in Review 2019

Thank you to all who were able to make it to our Annual Meeting on February 26, 2020, at the Loring Greenough House. We were excited to share the success of 2019 with you, and give a preview of things to come in JP Centre/South. We would especially like to thank Emily Shea, Commissioner of Age Strong Boston, and Michelle Moon from A Better City for speaking at our meeting.

They both shared exciting developments that are coming to Jamaica Plain.

Emily Shea talked about the Age-Friendly/Dementia-Friendly certifications that businesses can apply for, and talked about the City of Boston’s plans to serve the older population. To accompany these certifications, JP Centre/South Main Streets is unveiling a recognition program in JP for businesses that also become accessible for people with disabilities. This is the culmination of a series of workshops that we offered in the Fall of 2019: “At Your Service: Welcoming Customers with Disabilities,” presented by the New England ADA Center; and “ADA Architectural Access in Boston,” presented by Boston’s Commission for People with Disabilities.

Michelle Moon unveiled the final design for the Green Street Parklet, due to be installed some time in April on Green Street between 3 and 5 Green Street. The parklet promises to be the perfect niche for a little getaway, and traffic calming in the busy Centre/South district.
