  • Flagship February At Canary Square

    February 21, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
    Canary Square

    In the day and age of a feverish juicy milkshake IPA consumer culture, constant brewer experimentation and collaborations we have potentially dangerously forgotten so many breweries and beers which began us on an amazing journey to where we are today.

    Writer Stephen Beaumont (Food & Wine Magazine) has launched a #FlagshipFebruary campaign to draw attention to products we must fight to preserve and admire. He calls upon us craft beer drinkers, purveyors and beer makers to focus our attentions on Flagship Beers.

    We are happy to participate for the entire month of February pouring classic flagship brands on our rotating 30 taps and culminating with a SWAG giveaway and complimentary 16oz shaker style pint glass from your favorite Flagship Beer on Thursday February 21st from 6-9pm in Jamaica Plain.

    “Flagship beers are down in sales across the board because drinkers get bored,” he began in a pair of tweets last week. “In the spirit of alliteration, how about we make next month Flagship February!?! The focus would be on drinking faves from the early years, not necessarily exclusively, but frequently. The brands would get a boost and drinkers would be reminded of what got them here.” Beaumont writes.

    We love that idea sir. Let's show some love for these beers which did us right for so long.

    More details will be added and the list will be coming together soon.

    Cheers!!

  • Tres Gatos Book Club: Milkman

    February 24, 2019 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
    Tres Gatos

    On Feburary 24th at 330pm, join us at Tres Gatos as we dissect, discuss, debate and drink our way through Anna Burn's MILKMAN. All are welcome at the book club, and the book is currently on sale in the Tres Gatos bookstore.

    "In an unnamed city, middle sister stands out for the wrong reasons. She reads while walking, for one. And she has been taking French night classes downtown. So when a local paramilitary known as the milkman begins pursuing her, she suddenly becomes “interesting,” the last thing she ever wanted to be. Despite middle sister’s attempts to avoid him―and to keep her mother from finding out about her maybe-boyfriend―rumors spread and the threat of violence lingers. Milkman is a story of the way inaction can have enormous repercussions, in a time when the wrong flag, wrong religion, or even a sunset can be subversive. Told with ferocious energy and sly, wicked humor, Milkman establishes Anna Burns as one of the most consequential voices of our day."

  • JP Concerts Presents: Zaleski Brothers Duo & Family

    March 8, 2019 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
    St John's Church, Jamaica Plain

    JP CONCERTS : Zaleski Brothers Duo & Family
    An Evening of Jazz & Folk Duos
    St. John's Church & Open Theatre Project

    Fri, Mar 8, 2019 - 8PM

    >>> ABOUT THE CONCERT
    Hailing from Boylston, MA, Mark and Glenn Zaleski began playing as a duo from a very young age. This musical family doubled when Glenn met violinist, Tomoko Omura and Mark met singer, Greta DiGiorgio. Tonight Tomoko, Glenn, Mark and Greta will perform three short jazz and folk duo sets featuring jazz standards/originals, Japanese folk music, original singer-songwriter tunes and American pop music.

    >>> ABOUT THE GROUP
    Tomoko Omura and Glenn Zaleski -
    Glenn Zaleski is one of the most in-demand pianists on the New York City jazz scene. Originally from Boylston, MA, Glenn has made a name for himself playing with the likes of Ravi Coltrane, Lage Lund, and Ari Hoenig.

    Tomoko Omura is among today's leading voices in jazz violin. “Roots”, her debut album for Inner Circle Music, is a compelling tribute to her native Japan, featuring original arrangements of ten classic Japanese folk and popular songs.

    Nyota Road -
    Inspired by Southern gothic imagery and everyday beauty, Nyota Road is a husband and wife acoustic duo performing original songs about family, relationships and home.

    IT ALL STARTED WHEN....Greta decided to write a song as a birthday gift for her husband, Mark. She had always written silly tunes and even a children’s book but never a "serious" song. From that first tune, came another and another with each song telling stories reminiscent of relationships, family and growing up her hometown of Warrior, Alabama.

    We call ourselves Nyota Road named from a road in my hometown. Growing up I used to play on the river with my friends and take walks along the train trestle. We would spend hours floating down the river, taking in the world as we knew it at the time. To get there, we'd go down Nyota Road. It's one of my happiest memories.

    Mark and Glenn Zaleski Duo -
    Brothers Mark and Glenn Zaleski (saxophone and piano respectively) originally hail from Boylston, MA. As young musicians growing up in central MA they would perform duo together on a very regular basis, developing a deep musical rapport in the process. The two left New England to study at the prestigious Brubeck Institute in California, but all the while continued to develop their duet repertoire, which was finally recorded and released on their 2011 debut album, “Duet Suite”.

    “…the brothers not only seem to complete each other’s thoughts but also manage to never overplay, to never get in their partner’s way.”
