Age Strong and Accessible in Jamaica Plain

JP Centre/South Main Streets has kicked off a new project team to help businesses in the district become age-friendly, dementia-friendly, and accessible for people with disabilities. We had our first meeting last night with Boston’s Age Strong Commission, who are doing great work to certify businesses who are age-friendly and dementia-friendly.

JP Centre/South Main Streets volunteers met with Boston's Age Strong Commission on October 8, 2019, at JP Licks.

Many of the points for both age/dementia-friendly and accessible businesses overlap, so our project team is working to find a way to build a comprehensive checklist that will streamline the process and aid businesses. If any community members are interested in joining this project team, please reach out to our Executive Director.

Many thanks to Little Dipper and David Doyle, who helped start this initiative by hosting and sponsoring workshops for businesses in the district about Customer Service for People with Disabilities and Architectural Access for Businesses. Thank you also to the New England ADA Center and the Mayor’s Commission for People with Disabilities, who presented the workshops for our district.
