JP Centre/South Main Streets has been involved in a meaningful initiative to change the name of Bussey Street that bisects the Arnold Arboretum to honor an individual worthy of recognition in accord with present-day values of our Jamaica Plain and Roslindale communities. This is part of a community initiative that will report recommendations to the two street abutters – the Arboretum/Harvard and the Parks Department/City of Boston – who are empowered to make the formal request for the name change.
Please see the linked document that provides more background about this initiative, along with biographies of the five potential new names for the street. In the document is a link to a form that will ask you to rate the five candidates. The DEADLINE TO SUBMIT is April 27.
We hope you will contribute to the community process in contributing a more impactful and accurate narration of our local history.
